The Luxury Sedan UVs!

I had a request from Xaoz_HOT_XtC for the UVs for the new Luxury Sedan model so here they are. The art team is going to try and update our art blog with the UVs of any new props we make from now on too.

Things we are working on.

Hey Everyone as of December 10, 2009 here are a few things we are working on:

We are working on a re-design of Virtual Vancouver for the Olympics. The new design will continue to replicate Vancouver's landmarks. With this design we want to also aim for smoother performance so look forward to a new and improved VV.

For Christmas we are working on "Santa's Workshop" and Christmas Props for as many different types of Christmases to decorate around the world.

Some new Animations: Sorry, cannot specify what kind of animations. Stay tuned.

There are lots of things in the pipeline I am very sorry I cannot specify what these are, but I will keep you posted.

Kick, push, kick, push – Utherverse is rolling out a new action that will have you kick flipping in no time. Skateboarding is currently in QA and is still being tweaked before going live but we are inviting you to come test it out. Just type /skateboard in any area that normally allows rollerblading and you’re good to go. Oh, and while getting some sweet air, try out the u, i, o and p keys. Enjoy

Things we are working on.

Hey everyone I thought I'd just keep everyone updated on some of the things we are working on.

This week our priority is the art gallery event which is happening on Friday the 23rd.

We added a few things to granville island such as: a business named Crafthouse, and a skatepark. I hope you all enjoy the skatepark when it is pushed to production.

Haunted house with a maze. We are preparing for Halloween so we have made some props and this fun maze.

We are also planning on changing Virtual Vancouver street. We are putting in Fog and a night time sky for next week.

VWW Regions and New Zabys

We regret to inform you, that all new VWW regions will now have blocking volumes, or ‘boundaries’, to stop users from spawning outside of their purchased space.

Some have exploited these maps by placing “Moving to Location” outside of the space paid for. This can cause problems with props, scaling, and collision.

These maps are built using BSP’s (Binary Space Partitioning) and all the editing is supposed to be done within that BSP space. So when problems occur with businesses and users regarding the “outside space” of their purchased property, there is really nothing we can do, other than block off the entire map to stop these problems from occurring, as it is not officially governed or supported space.

We realize that many of you have put hard work into your regions. Many of us here have done the same. However, placing in boundaries is something that absolutely needed to be done. Exploiting the maps in this way disrupts business as well as causes technical issues.

If you have edited your start point outside this “blocking volume/boundary”, you will need to port to this region, open the start point manager from there, and delete the modified start point, restoring it to default, and therefore allowing you to set a new start point within your new boundary.

For you Zaby owners who have built outside the boundary, don’t worry, any current Zaby owners will be ‘grandfathered’ and will not have their work removed if it falls outside the boundary. However, any new Zaby purchases from this point on will be subject to the boundaries.

This is unfortunately the only course we can take, as the sole, alternate solution to these exploitations would be to get rid of the “Move to Location” script, and we know that is not a very workable option.

Attention Designers!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to put you in the loop of things. At the moment we are testing out a tool called the World Texture Editor. What the tool does is you can change the texture on the walls, floors, and ceilings of the regions. More technical terms you can now change bsp textures. It is going through a testing mode right now and it is very buggy. One of our multimedia artist has played around with the tool in his Zaby and here are the results. Be patient we want to make sure this tool doesn't break the client and comes released with the lease amount of bugs as possible. I just thought this might be a cool update to fill you in on what the development team has been working on.

Art Patch September 15

Hey users of Utherverse, just a quick note there will be an art patch happening either tonight or tomorrow morning. We will be patching to QA first so if things go smoothly these are the things you can look forward too.

Patch will include:

- Blu's club renovations
- New instrument props
- New Dining table prop
- New Rude Zaby Interiors
- Some bed props were not facing the right axis so we have rotated them to work properly. Warning for the people who have used these specific beds you might need to go into your zaby's to re-rotate them.

Attaching Meshes which do not have UI yet.

Here's a quick step-by-step on how to attach the new meshes that don't have UI spots yet :)

First step - Getting to the Avatar Override menu

1. Go to www.utherverse.com

2. Sign in

3. Click "My Home" in the upper right

4. Click "Edit Profile" in the bar along the top

5. On the bar that appears under this, click "Avatar".

Second step - Adding a mesh override

This menu lets you see all the textures and meshes that are attached to your avatar, and lets you customize them yourself with things that aren't normally available through the UI. There are a bunch of new meshes that don't yet have a place in UI (user interface), but that have been made available for advanced users to play with. These include some baggy clothes meshes, beards, bags, and veils. For this tutorial, we'll attach a veil.

1. Find an unnused mesh spot. Look for an empty box with [Something]Mesh beside it. For this guide, use OtherMesh, at the bottom. It's a good one to use since it's generally empty. The only thing that goes on there usually is wings.

2. Type HF_Head_BridalVeil_Long.gml into the box. The mesh boxes will always be for GMLs. These are the files that link to a mesh.

3. If you wish to change the texture, there is a OtherSkin box below. Typing the name of a texture in the game (followed by .png or .jpg) will put this texture onto the mesh.

4. Click "Save Changes" at the bottom.

5. At the top of the page is the "Saved Outfits" section. If you wish, you can save your just created outfit here and then apply it in the game. Otherwise you'll have to log out and log back in to see the changes on your avatar.

Thats all! You should now be wearing a veil. Meshes can be attached to many of the different points, but keep in mind that some may not work as well as others because this is essentially hacking the character to make it do something it wasn't initially set up for.

Hey all,

I figured you should be kept informed of what I've been working on. On the next patch, I'm going to be putting quite a few pieces of new clothing into QA for some testing by the users. I'm not expected glitches to come up (I think I've got everything under control there) but if any do, I'd appreciate them being sent over to me. So, just so you know what's coming, and can maybe psych up the users about it, here it is!

Baggy clothing options for men!

The baggy pants attachment for women is already in production, and here's the long awaited baggy pants, shorts and shirts for men.

Skirt meshes that can attach to the male models. Can be used for Kilts, robes, trannys, whatever.

Now the catch with these is that there's no menu for them in the normal character customization. Not yet anyway. For now I'm just putting them in, and getting advanced users who know how to use the Avatar override settings in the profile to test them out. See where they work, where they don't. Utherverse Patch August 14, 2009

Big Big art patch:

Alright so there is a lot of new character customization that went through to this patch. New female hair and tons of facial piercings.

New maps and rebuilt maps:

Flying region - Re textured and some new geometry.
Nightcandy - Just a small tweak to the stage, we enlarged the stage.
Palace - Completely re done and looks amazing.
Roller Rink - Completely re done and looks like a real roller rink.
VIP Movie Theatre - Redesigned and looks fantastic. This region is still under construction so users will not be able to see it at the moment.

Fantasy Hotel Lobby went through a small renovation. New hotel rooms are located on the 4th and 5th floors.


Most importantly we have done lots of clean up work on the client. We have removed a ton of files that are no longer needed and compressed some files to make the client a smaller download.

I will keep you posted. I know there are a few things I missed and will continue to update this.
